I met Camille when I was just 18 years old. I'd spent the summer hitch-hiking around the South of France where I literally bumped into her on the Rue Paradis in Marseille. She completely took my breath away and I was totally overwhelmed by her.
We sat in a cafe and I listened, mesmerised, as she talked in her provocative French accent. She had such seductive charm. A real femme fatale. This was the start of a brief and passionate affair which ended as abruptly as it began and left me devastated. I realise now that she was just playing some sort of game, but it took me a long time to get over this alluring and mysterious lady.
Amazingly, I came across Camille again many years later and learned some surprising things about her past. She had been a huge celebrity in her younger days and had an extraordinary and quite tragic life. Check out this link to learn Camille's incredible life story
She came to me on summer nights
Shining eyes like blinding lights
Spoke to me of sweet delights
In words I'd understand
Followed her so willingly
Dared to dream what couldn't be
As I felt her love wash over me
Like a wave upon the sand
Then she took my tender heart
And crushed it in her hand
Camile, Camille
She would have complete control
Every move was planned
Taught me how to love again
Didn't question why or when
Cos I was so much younger then
And I didn't care at all
Much too blind to realise
Had no mind to criticise
I cculdn't see through misty eyes
The writing on the wall
She lifted me to dizzy heights
And then she let me fall
Camille, Camille
Out to break every heart you steal
Camille, Camille
Who could get close to you Camille?
